This is a well made solid block. My desk has a 1" edge and this is the only desk mount that has worked. The clamp is the best I've seen in terms of stability, it has foam padding and nice heavy proportions. I would have liked to use a bar instead of a handle to tighten it in tight spaces (e.g. a 1" wide bar next to wood panels), but I was able to tension it by sliding it halfway across the bar and tightening that far did as I could, and then pushed it back onto the table. It worked thanks to the center of gravity of the clamp. If we're talking about the hand itself, it's huge. It moves back and forth, up and down easily, but it doesn't really slam against the wall because the arm is at a fixed angle on a hinge near the table. If this angle was also adjustable I would give it 5 stars. The included instructions are by no means easy to follow. Since the VESA plate is permanently attached to the mount, you have to lay the monitor face down on the floor, screw on the (long, heavy) mount, and then lift the entire (heavy, bulky) assembly onto the desk mount. You will likely need a longer monitor cable and a longer monitor power cable if you are using a cable management system and then want to install it any distance from your computer.
