Review on πŸ’‘ Mean Well NES-100: 100W High-performance Single Output Power Supply by Ryan Springer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great Quality 100w Product

EDIT: I originally gave this 3 stars because I was only getting 51-54 watts before the overcurrent trip kicked in. Turns out I'm an idiot. I didn't notice the AC input switch inside the unit which was set to 230VAC. I switched it to 115VAC and it works fine now. Below I leave my first review in all its glorious silliness. ---------- ------------------------------------------------------ ---------- ----------------------- I bought this to replace the DC 12V 100W power supply for the Drobo5N 5 HDD NAS; This device requires a full power output of 100W to function properly. The good things first: the terminal block is of excellent quality. I was able to make a secure connection with the blade terminals without removing the screw head. The general build quality of the PSU looks top notch. The voltage regulator works great. I set it directly to 12.00VDC with the voltage adjustment screw and it held 12.00V perfectly under load (up to 4.5A). Now for the bad: In my application (Drobo 5N) the initial power up works fine. The device and LEDs turn on and draw approximately 1.29 A from the power supply. However, once the hard drives start spinning, the current draw gradually increases until the PSU kicks in and restarts at 4.2-4.5 amps (tested several times). I expected about 8 amps to be drawn from this power supply, but it just isn't going to happen. I've seen a lot of praise for Mean Well's power supplies. I may have just gotten a lemon, but I'll return it anyway (which is super easy thanks to Revain's free return policy) and upgrade the Mean Well 150W power supply to see how it works.
