Review on Parker 99R Heavyweight Butterfly Platinum by Sheila Harris

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Much better than a cheap razor

I've been shaving with a similar razor for a few years now. It came as an offer from Revain for just a few dollars and I decided to give it a try. After a steep and bloody learning curve, I get the closest shave of my life. But more importantly, my chronic ingrown hairs are gone. I'm a double-edged convert. So I ended up thinking maybe I should try a better razor to see if something more expensive is better. The Parker 99R arrived quickly like most Revain items and at first glance I was disappointed. It seemed almost the same as my super cheap one. There was nothing that made me believe it was better. But after using it I found it a very worthwhile purchase. It holds the blade much tighter and stays that way. My other razor that I need to clean regularly. This stays in place. I didn't measure, but the blade seems to flex a little more. This strong pinch, and possibly the angle caused by the blade's kink, provides a better, more controlled shave and greatly increases blade life. On a cheap razor, two razor blades were fine, but the third was noticeably worse. With Parker, I can easily use the razor 5 or more times to shave. Why not 5 stars? I see knurling as primarily cosmetic and doesn't give me the control I want. Also, the design somehow exposes the angle of the blade a little more, allowing my carelessness to snag on it.
