Disappointed with the quality - after 4 months the strap broke

Bought this backpack for my son who is in a preschool. He has been using the backpack every day since mid-September, that's about 4 months. On average, he carries about 4 pounds in a bag - a lunch box and a container for drinks, a satchel and a change of clothes. He wears shoulder straps and carries a bag on his back. Pros: The robot pattern is cute and colorful. The bag can be used by both boys and girls. We also have a matching holdall which is in good condition and a lunch bag which is a very close fit. The backpack has enough space to stow a child of preschool or elementary school age. There is a smaller front pocket for small items and a side pocket for storing drinks, small toys and gloves. Shoulder straps have appropriate padding. The zippers work smoothly and my child can open and close them independently. Cons: After only 4 months of normal use, the top handle strap has worn out and is separating from the bag. I can sew but it's an uncomfortable place and I'm not sure regular needle and thread work will hold up. If my kid was carrying heavy books, a laptop, or other bulky items, I would expect the strap to wear out (although he doesn't seem to use the top handle regularly, so I don't know why it breaks). Given the price of $25, given normal use and the weight we put into this bag, I'm disappointed in the quality of this product.
