Good inverter small/medium size

I took this to have power in the car when needed and it's a modified sine wave, not a pure sine wave so shouldn't be expected to do it for heavy inductive loads like z as motors or with sensitive electronics that require a smooth AC waveform. The form factor is quite small for something rated at 1200 W. With an input voltage of 14.4 VDC, the inverter supplied 117 VAC with no load. The frequency was heavily distorted, only showing between 12 and 30Hz depending on the torque (should normally be 60Hz), so the sine step function is probably pretty coarse (although I can't tell for sure without an oscilloscope). For the test I decided to try a small radiant heater (which is a purely resistive load and so the AC waveform is pretty much irrelevant). The low heater used about 1000 watts, I tried the high heater but the load jumped to 1500 briefly and then the inverter beeped and turned off as expected. Considering it held up at just over 1000w for a while, I'd say the 1200w rating is probably accurate, otherwise it would likely shut off after heating up. As mentioned, this isn't a pure sine wave inverter, but it's a lot better than some of the smaller 500W inverters that cost almost the same price.

  • Good stuff
Cons
