Review on ๐Ÿš˜ Mishimoto MMRAD-EVO-456 Performance Aluminum Radiator for Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 4/5/6 (1996-2000) by Jerome Brooks

Revainrating 4 out of 5

For the price it couldn't be better.

Let me start by putting this on my 2005 Evolution 8, obviously not the car it was designed for but I'm not the first to have done it Has. Price aside, I've seen better builds, but they're more than double the price and not always available. For the money, Mishimoto radiators are hard to beat; they look great and work! My setup: cooler fits perfectly with bottom rubber mounts. The upper radiator mounts are not very good. I ended up having to visit Home Depot to get anything working. I run a stock turbo with a Muse o2 dump. I had to remove the O2 drain and downpipe to make room for the cooler. There is a very small gap between the cooler and the O2 drain (1/2 to 1/4 inch). Even with the front and side urethane motor mounts, I'm a little paranoid about kicking the blade. I'll update this when it happens. Update: (April 2017) Cooler shows no signs of damage from o2 reset. Because this radiator uses a different upper radiator hose layout than the Evo 8 design, the Evo 8 upper radiator hose will not fit. You can buy a Mishimoto hose designed for the Evo 4, 5 or 6. Another option is to purchase a Gates 12-inch flex hose at any auto parts store for about $15. The lower radiator hose is the same as between the stock fan and the Evolution 8 cover does not dangle at all. Most people will choose a thin aftermarket 12-inch or 13-inch fan over the stock unit. I chose Sleep 30102029 and couldn't be happier. I bought Spal clamps instead of pushing mounting bars through the heatsink. Eventually, if you have an air conditioner, the condenser line meets the radiator. I had a few inches of spare rubber tubing and cut it off on one side with a razor. I wrapped rubber tubing around the AC line and secured it with some black zip ties. You can also bend the AC line, but these are small aluminum tubes that are easy to bend. You don't want to break them and release freon into the atmosphere. Freon is very bad for the environment and since you have evolution you obviously care a lot about the environment. (Update) I've learned a few things over the last 3 years: Dayco 76138 is a simple straight hose that looks better than the Gates "ribbed" hose. Of sufficient length, it flexes just enough to fit and doesn't look misaligned at all. Gates makes OEM replacement rubber hoses for Evo 4/5/6 models. part no. 05-1847. Good luck with your search in the US.
