Firstly they will fit and work with the uv5r radio. Despite being cheaply built, their quality is right up there with the radio. They both required setup and awkward tuning to be reliable, and the fact that the actual battery compartment is a bit long for AA batteries makes tuning difficult. I used rechargeable batteries and made a pair of 1/16" standoffs out of brass standoffs. If you want to use alkaline batteries you will also need a plug which is not included. They will work but remember the uv5r does not have a power connector to charge them so they need to be adapted to work with any type of charger For myself I installed the DC jack right in front of the hump as that's where all the dead air space is.
