Bought these for off road driving, they are colorful so easy to spot when driving. The first mission was on the beach, there wasn't much space between the cars, but the sound was crystal clear. The second time they were used was in the woods, and the sound was still clear (again, the distance between cars was no more than half a mile). Hold the talk button for a second or two before speaking, as many of our conversations were missing. start.*** I recommend reading the booklet and familiarizing yourself with the features or taking the manual with you when you travel. My two year old got one of these and turned on a feature that allowed our other side to hear EVERYTHING. We didn't get an answer from them, but they had to listen to us for an hour before turning off the radios. Great feature for a baby monitor on the go!***
