Really good for the night. I can see exactly where the dogs are after dark when I let them out. It can be trimmed but for my purposes I just doubled it around the neck as I have 4 smaller puppies. They are ideally doubled for a 21 pound Rat Terrier and a 16 pound Chivini dog. However, I would not recommend anyone with a dog under 15 pounds. The lamp itself is too big for a small dog. It is 3-3.5 inches of inflexible material. The clear plastic that actually glows needs to be trimmed significantly for smaller dogs, making the collar useless as you can't cut it short enough and still connect the ends to the lighting mechanism. . This is not a problem for large dogs. The light is quite bright too. I live on 2.5 acres and can see 2 out of 4 dogs clearly in the pitch black night. The ribbed collar stretches beyond belief. This collar will not stretch one mm. If you try to stretch it, it will fall apart like it should. Stupid question IMHO.
