Review on ⚡️ Renogy 20A On-Board Battery Charger for Flooded, Gel, AGM, and Lithium Batteries: Multi-stage Charging by Patrick Stephani

Revainrating 4 out of 5

If set correctly, it works fine.

If you have a lifepo4 battery you know that charging outside of the solar panel can be a problem, this device really solves that problem. I charge a 200ah lifepo4 battery on a retractable trailer that I use for off grid camping for up to two weeks. I was looking for a charger that could be used by my 1800 watt generator or charged from shore but as it's not in my price range I found this one instead. I chose the 20A version as I don't want to put too much strain on my alternator and may also couple my tractors power in the future. I have used a cheaper regulated 120 volt to 12 volt 30 amp power supply that still works fine. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because the instructions are total crap, after several attempts to set the dip switches I contacted Reneogy and they told me the switches should be set to S1 off, S2 on, S3 on, S4 on, S5 off for lifepo4. I've only had a few field tests with this charger to date and don't currently use my car to charge a bank so lifespan is unknown. Another thing I don't like is that it raises my bank a bit higher than my solar array which I have set at 14.15 volts but in my case it won't be the main charger just the shore charger that I have as a backup and use when solar isn't available or practical (I need to remove the panels).

Pros
  • 3. Battery input and output isolation
Cons
  • Replacement Availability
