My previous heater worked for a couple of years and then stopped working. stay warm The new one didn't even last a month. I took the new one apart to see why it wasn't working. From what I remember it will light up and heat up if you press hard on the dial. The old failed device does the same and works intermittently. Below the dial is a potentiometer that controls the temperature. If it doesn't make good contact internally, it can lose connection, causing it to function as if it were on its lowest setting. I'll have to desolder the pot and check the values to see what I suspect. It can be as simple as replacing a pot, which isn't a big deal to me. If that doesn't help I build my own control box using the original heating pad, PID temperature controller, solid state relay and thermocouple to place under the mattress. I did the same for an automated lead caster I built, and PIDs are also used in restaurant equipment to maintain very accurate temperatures.
