I was very disappointed in the quality of this product. I bought 2 of these thermometers for home brewing. When they arrived the package was intact. After pulling the battery securing tab and trying to turn on the devices, nothing happened. Both screens were blank. After removing the cover from one of the blocks to see what the problem was, I noticed that the battery had exploded. I used a dry rag to try to remove some of the dried battery acid. After replacing the battery with a new one, the screen shows 888.8 and the device does not turn off. To make matters worse, the lid no longer snaps into place, but only dangles. I'm glad I decided to try this cheaper model before buying one of the more expensive ones. I will not buy a Taylor thermometer again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. You'd be better off looking for another manufacturer.
