These Retevis RT38 radios are excellent FRS HT radios that perform and sound much better than their price suggests. I was completely amazed at how well these radios work and how well made they are. I quickly ordered another set for my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. Removing the battery cover is a bit tricky, but the job will be easier if you first remove the belt clip by lifting the small belt clip tab at the top while pressing on it. belt clip with the thumb of the other hand pointing up toward the top of the radio. Then, using your thumbnail or a small screwdriver, press the battery cover against the bottom of the radio to make it work, and then remove it. Remember that these walkie-talkies are designed for small children's hands. Therefore, do not cover the microphone hole with an adult's hand when using it. The instruction manual is relatively easy to understand, so I don't understand why some people are reporting otherwise.
