Significantly improved GPS signal on Helix 5

I bought the Helix 5 combo GPS module for GPS navigation only (I don't fish). While I liked the device, I was disappointed with the poor satellite signal I got. It took a long time to find the solution and even when I did, it was weak and intermittent. I finally got this product. While it wasn't plug and play, the Humminbird website has splicing instructions that will allow you to connect both data to the Helix 5 and power at 12V DC. Of course, that takes work and money. . I installed this thing on the bow of my boat and it's been day and night. I get a signal within a few seconds of turning the unit on (even after it's been idle for a while) and the signal is consistently strong - 18-22 satellites are always in use. It's a shame to have to buy this to make up for the shortcomings of the GPS unit's internal antenna, but I'll say it's worth it. I am very glad that I bit the bullet and bought this antenna.
