I wanted to get rid of my age-old Infinity Surround speakers that were hanging from the ceiling of my living room. The perception of surround sound has also changed changed over the last decade, and rear speakers are no longer viewed as weak speakers used only to round out the sound, but as essential components in accurately reproducing the extracted signals carried by today's 5.1/7.1 systems ... In other words, 3" drivers with 75W peak power were no longer acceptable. I reviewed a wide range of in-wall speakers, ranging from the high end of the money spectrum to my budget (Energy, Klipsch) and the low end. (AudioSource, Pyle) and everything in between I almost settled on some Polks when I was making a list of this he saw 6.5 inch muros and did some research. The range of these BICs was better in the lower range (down to 40 Hz compared to 55 Hz) and the power was slightly higher (125 W to 100 W). I've had a couple of BIC bookshelf speakers for a long time that still work, so I decided to give them a try; It really was a win-win to get a $300 pair of speakers for such a low price. With the Florida sun scorching our roof in the summer and temperatures in the attic getting surprisingly hot, I figured using a weatherproof speaker system wouldn't hurt either. Very happy with it. As soon as they were delivered, I noticed that they have a good weight due to the robust hardware and magnets. The pins are gold plated and the cones are made of durable polygraphite. Installation couldn't be simpler - insert a screw or two from the back to loosen the grille, cut a hole in the ceiling using the template provided, attach the speaker wire, place the speaker in the hole and pull simply tighten the 4 screws. screws. Did. It took all of 20 minutes. Another nice touch was the inclusion of two sets of grilles - a pair made out of metal that can be painted and another pair covered in white fabric. I chose fabric, but metal looks good too. I ran them on full stereo for a couple of days to overclock them with some CDs and they sound really great. I wasn't expecting such a rich sound from the 6.5" speakers, but paired with a subwoofer they're quite capable. Not audiophiles by any means, but I'd say they sound just as good as the $400 Polk I've bought I wouldn't hesitate to use them outside on a patio or ceiling if the wiring was in another room of the house In terms of DVD surround sound they reveal a lot more than the little pair of Infinity they replace have - much more full spectrum and the highs are clean and the tweeters are aimed at the couches in front of them. For $300 a pair these are very good speakers - in my opinion as good as the Polks and even better than the advertised specs. But for $77 a pair?!?You would be crazy not to take them. You will be very satisfied.I think you could spend more but I don't know why?!?
