Review on X ACTO Commercial Electric Pencil Sharpener by Lori Aguirre

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works great while it works

In 2013 I paid $130 for this sharpener. When it works, it's very fast (and quite noisy) and works great with pencils of all shapes and sizes. As far as I know, if this is possible for crayons, it will void the warranty. Also when used to sharpen pencils with a decorative plastic foil, the foil will clog the cutter blades and you will need to remove the sheath to gain access for cleaning. After a few years the internal safety lever broke and had to be fixed with a nut and bolt. I also had to use rubber bands to hold the chip tray firmly to the case body as it tended to slip out a few millimeters and then the sharpener wouldn't work due to the internal safety mechanism. Just last week the engine appeared to have stalled. problematic. The internal gears are plastic (which is a major drawback for a sharpener that retails for $200) and I was worried they would come off, but they seem fine. However, the sharpener only hums and does not rotate. If the company justifies this sharpener I will update it and leave a five star review. If not, I'd say it's a pretty good choice at the current price of $50 and I'd consider buying a second device at that price point. I certainly wouldn't pay back what I originally paid if the company didn't honor their guarantee offer.

Pros

Cons
