Stops working after a few hours

Received this item, played around with it, put music on it, tried listening in the bathroom for a while. Everything worked fine. A minor annoyance is how hard you have to press the buttons to register. After a few hours the device stopped working. I plugged in the charger and there's a red light showing it's charging, but nothing happens. The next day it still doesn't respond to button presses.
