Review on 🚴 Enhance Your Cycling Performance with SHIMANO Deore RD-M592 Rear Derailleur by Mark Meyer

Attention 1x10 cross bike fanatics who have trouble mixing road and mountain components.

Attention 1X Transmission Fanatics! This is your blueberry! This switch saved my Monstercross build. Let's face it, most components available for a cross bike are far too fragile. You can no longer mix Shimano 10 speed mountain and road components due to different dyna-sys gear ratios. oooh With this I have solved the problem with the 1x10 transmission. I replaced the road wheels with several taller sealed bearing units. Most people find that a 9 speed rear gear will not work with a 10 speed derailleur. That is not true. It works fantastic! I use a 10 speed Shimano Retro-Shift CX shifter with this 9 speed rear with updated street wheels. I use a 42 tooth sprocket with an 11-36 10 speed rear mountain cassette and 10 speed chain. As for the label on the 9-speed derailleur, it's about the chain width it can handle, not the size of the rear cassette. This rear gear was easily adjustable and shifted easily with positive and crisp shifts. I wanted a mechanical XT with 10 gears, clutch style rear, but the gear ratio didn't work with my Vassago Fisticuff drop bar monster build. But it turned out to be a great solution! Although it doesn't have a clutch, the unit has fantastic rear spring tension and the chain didn't fall off. Much more tension than the 105 rear road circuit I used. I use a front sprocket with Wolff gear components. This allowed for a nice clean no fuss build with a front gear and double front crank. The gear has enough steam to run decently on flat terrain or on the road and is very effective in most climbing situations. The climb has to be very extreme before this setup will make you walk. If you want to guarantee superior climbing ability, switch to a 39-tooth cog. You lose some steam on the flats, but it's still good for about 22 mph. The setup is a compromise, but it's simple and fully functional. I would say, with this exception, that most 9spd/10spd mixes of components will not work, but this particular assortment of parts is perfect!
