Review on Efficient Filtration with Azoo AZ13099 Filter: A Comprehensive Review and Buying Guide by Kelly Thompson

Fantastic hob! - Fish & Aquatic Pets

I've had tiny AZOO filters on my bettas in the past and really liked them. Sturdy, quiet and was able to put a sponge on the pickup to prevent the Beta from sticking to the pickup (why do they do that?). I needed a BP for a 15 and 22 gallon tank, but I wanted something reliable, quiet, and inexpensive. Have you had other HOBs (Aqueon, Marineland, Aquaclear) and they were noisy, $$$, unreliable (will die within months) or was a hassle to refill when you lose power. My tiny Azoos have always been reliable and would fire up immediately after a power outage or tank cleaning without the need to top up or refuel. You can only imagine how happy I was to see the same design in larger sizes so I didn't hesitate to pick one for my 15 gallon and 22 gallon. Yes, it came with a cartridge, but it also came with sponges, and it wasn't difficult for me to set up internals big enough to add extra media and custom sponges and remove the unnecessary cartridge. I fell in love with them all over again, they are much quieter than other hobs in this size range and can't stand a foam filter with a noisy air pump. If you haven't decided to try it yet, just do it and you won't regret it. Okay maybe one thing, the intake is U-shaped so it can be a bit difficult to clean on the street. I find that a large drain cleaning wand works well with a strong jet of water. To be honest this is my only downside for the filter, also they come with inlet sponges to keep small fish/shrimp out of the filter and add extra mechanical and biological filtration. Just be sure to clean it gently and it will easily last a year without replacement.

Pros
  • Reliable performance for a long time
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
