Heavy duty pliers, strong but

So I love these don't get me wrong. I'm really. They are strong, they can pull the canvas very tight and I get a very good stretch from them. However, they have very sharp edges at the edges of the serrated area. That's where most of the stress occurs when stretching, you have a sharp edge that puts pressure on the canvas. It took me two stretches of canvas and a lot of tears and tears in my canvas to figure out what the problem with the pliers was. They're just too sharp for a tight track, sorry. For example, I could probably cut myself on the corner (and I know I could cut myself on the handles where the two halves meet) because it's too sharp. I cannot have ragged edges on my canvases, sorry. I like their durability so I'm really frustrated that they keep tearing my canvas. Now I don't know if they are for heavier weights and that might be an issue (I use unprimed 12oz cotton duck) but they just don't work for me. I checked, maybe it was just the canvas which was vulnerable and torn for unknown reasons. I used my friend's pliers, Friedrix brand I believe, and her pliers were rounded on the corners and smooth and had absolutely no spots to dig into my canvas and cause a tear. I ripped the first stretch I did with them, but I think it was in a spot that had already been loosened with my pliers because I had no problems after that. Unfortunately, their pincer felt less powerful and not as strong, so it felt like I was sacrificing strength for the ability to hold the canvas together. Now I'm afraid that I won't be able to pull the canvases well, but I can't keep tearing him to pieces.

Pros
  • Used to hold canvas in place and stretch over frame
Cons
  • Not sure
