I've tried the more popular dual-bay version of the detachable SSD/HDD docking station, and due to a design flaw, it breaks off very easily due to the thin center support bar in the SATA -Connectors (which I did and). The SATA ports on the side of the device seem to need some sort of surrounding wall for support in addition to the center bar. However, another manufacturer chose to eliminate this on the two data ports, presumably to reduce the height to fit a 3.5-inch drive bay. However, the ICY DOCK includes a perimeter wall, so with due care the cables will snap securely and easily into place. The eject buttons on the front of the ICY DOCK are known to require significant pressure to eject the disc. I think this is good for preventing accidental retrieval, but it's uncommon and can be a source of frustration for those who don't know. The 860 EVO drive I use (height 6.8mm) only takes up about 2/3 the height of the bay and works perfectly even if the drive is not quite horizontal (it can also be straightened after insertion) . The drive will be recognized by the BIOS and Linux software when inserted before power-on. Haven't tested hot swap yet. I'll update this review after partitioning it and using it for a while.
