I haven't owned long but so far; I'm pleased with this product. The lighting isn't enough to light up a room or anything but plenty bright to luminate whatever is being viewed through the glass. I love the amount of magnification for small craft / modeling projects. Haven't used it to during soldering but imagine it would be excellent for that as well. As with most magnifiers the image is clear in the center and distorted as you get off center, hasn't been an issue for me.I do supplement mine with a table task light (along with my room lighting) so I can clearly see all items on the table well rather than what is just below the magnifier.
