Review on πŸ”§ ESP32 LoRa 32 (V2) Development Board with Bluetooth & WIFI, Dual Core 240MHz CP2102, OLED Display, and 868/915MHZ Antenna for IoT Makers, Smart Cities, Farms, and Home Automation by Kartik Starks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

but in the meantime I have ordered a few more samples for my project due to lack of time and the generally good function of the board

Update: the seller replaced the defective board and they are otherwise in 6 months everything worked perfectly - 5 Stars! I recently bought 4 of these for a project. I'm currently buying more but thought I'd leave a note here about my experience. Out of the 4 boards, 3 work as expected with LoRa, OLED screen and can be connected to several other devices and use the battery connector to work. The other board appears to have a non-working screen and is causing some sort of short circuit/power failure that is affecting its ability to program at full speed and generally work with the OLED screen. These boards come with a small demo using the screen. So when this board was originally included and didn't have a demo I was a bit curious, maybe someone reflashed it, returned it and sent it back? But one day when I tried to flash it myself, I got the error "Fatal error occurred: Invalid packet header ('F')". Some googling has led me to the conclusion that reducing the blink rate might work in this case, but it's a possible sign that the ESP is failing. I managed to reflash after reducing the bitrate from 921600 to 115200. However, OLED still didn't work. I contacted MakerFocus to get a replacement and to offer to send this unit back, but in the meantime I've ordered a few more samples for my project due to time constraints and the overall good performance of the board. From a technical point of view, my only other criticism might be that the pinout they use for i2c OLED and LoRa SPI is a bit unconventional and causes some headaches when connecting and running SPI with other devices. Comparing the standard ESP32 pinout to the pinout for this one switches a few things like the pin for the SPI clock and the chip select. when using OLED!

Pros
  • Best in their niche
Cons
  • Almost everything ok
