I saw these bulbs at a local restaurant and was so in love with their signature 'overhead cartoon' bulb that I had to have my own! Turning them off to about the brightness of a candle is fine for me - I don't need a backlight, I want the filament to be a work of art in its own right, so I leave them on the dimmer and turn them off. no fluorescent lights. The 3000 hour rating is average, meaning some will burn longer and some will burn fewer hours. A few tips to extend the lifespan: Keep it at about half. This alone should increase the lifespan by about 3x. Never shake the lamp when it is on. The filaments in these lamps are thinner than in traditional lamps, and there are more filaments hanging from the harp. A strong blow can break a hot filament, and prolonged vibration will eventually weaken the filament where the harp is holding it. — Filaments in the shape of "squirrel cage” and "hairpin” should only be used vertically.
