Decent tools for use with composite rods

Both rods work well for their intended purpose - to restore your composite rods from China. I have yet to try them with better sharpeners like Arkansas or Bluestones. I suspect they will work but may wear out faster. Black Stone has a lower grain size and is used for sculpting. The smaller white stone has a higher grit and is therefore used for finishing. I believe they are also known as "Nagura" stones in the Japanese knife sharpening community. I recommend soaking your whetstones in water for a few minutes before attempting to smooth them. This creates a slurry that helps remove the metal shavings and other contaminants that naturally lodge in your tools as you sharpen them. You can check your form progress by using a ruler and/or calipers to measure the thickness of your sharpening stone as you go.
