The vast majority of the reviews I've seen as this guitar and playing are intended for absolute beginners but coming from someone who has been playing guitar for 10 years makes this a very difficult transition to get used to getting used to the controller, and I'm sure the Strat is a lot better in that regard, but as it's so hard to find one at a reasonable price these days I had to settle for that. I bought it on a whim given the huge drop in price after the release of Rock Band 3. $40? Oh what the heck and 3 days later he was in front of my door. Basically I just wanted to expand my Rock Band 3 experience a bit as the 5 knob guitar is dated and the pro guitar is way more fun. if I'm not upset about this controller. First all the buttons, my god! 17 frets, 6 strings, you can count. Big-hand folks, it's very easy to accidentally hit the wrong button and hit the wrong note in a chord, and the whole chord registers as a miss. It's too sensitive and requires too much precision to start a streak. No real guitarist plays with such precision every time they play a song, now and then a note is missing in a chord, but this controller is very unforgiving. Second, the strings themselves seem cheap and similar. The rubber bands and gauge of each string are the same! If you ever look at a real guitar, the gauge of the strings varies from thick to light from the top string to the bottom. This makes it very easy not to know which string you are playing as you cannot feel its gauge as they are all the same. The string height is uneven and as far as I can tell there is no way to adjust it without taking half the body apart. For example, my 4th and 2nd strings are about 1/8 inch below the other strings, which can easily result in losing the string with your pick. Third, the signal on this thing seems to get mixed up with the signal. for my IONs, so whenever I want to play the ION I have to take out the wireless adapter for that controller. A small issue, but worth mentioning nonetheless. All in all I would recommend getting a Strat if you have one as it is actually a real guitar and it is just another controller mimicking a real guitar. I suppose a beginner looking to learn the basics will have more of this, but if you're a seasoned guitarist just wanting to add depth to your experience in a rock band I wouldn't recommend it as you can. Unless you're playing this thing like you would a real guitar, you'll find that you have to make a lot of adjustments to your technique just to make it work. Personally, I would recommend a Strat instead of this controller for both players.
