I fish and hunt. I bought this unit to pack meat and fish in bulk after a good day of fishing or hunting. When sealing wet meat and fish, the device does not remove the air properly. The motor that drives the vacuum sealer only runs for 2 or 3 seconds. To keep it running longer - which is important if you want to remove as much air as possible before freezing (which is why people buy a vacuum sealer) - you have to trick the machine into thinking it doesn't have an adequate seal installed. Strip double-sided vacuum bags and thread them through the "corner" of the oval seam. Insert the package you want to seal. -- while maintaining downward pressure on the cover. This can work about 50% of the time if you allow 2 minutes between engine starts. If you do it faster, the strip won't heat up properly to seal your bag, whether it's a Weston bag or anything else on the market. Why would I want to develop a complex workaround for a product I spent like $400 on? A better question is how much do I have to spend to get a seal that does:1. Removes all air before sealing2. Can create a strong seal every 60 seconds. Do not buy this device if you intend to do the following. I thought $400 would be enough, but it turned out not to be.
