Review on 🎧 SP-USB Transcription Headset with Volume Control by Spectra by Mike Rubenstein

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent sound quality, extremely poor build quality, quite uncomfortable

I bought this headset to transcribe interviews at 2-3 parties, in person and over the phone. Recording quality can vary widely, so good sound balance is essential to help speakers stand out against background noise. It doesn't deliver the sound richness of the WordSmith headset, but it is clearer. I'm willing to take the opportunity to listen instead of making things sound nicer every day. I get clarity due to poor reception and background noise. Spectra shines brightest when spoken at the same time. I can understand much better than before what individual participants are talking about. BAD-WOW, that's a cheaply made thing. It is designed like a stethoscope so the strap hangs around your neck. If you bend your neck and the band just touches your chest, you'll get a buzz. If you turn your head and hit your shoulder with a bandage, it buzzes. If you try to wear it as a headband, it won't fit properly and will fall off. It is NOT built to last, has no strong contact points, and no protection for the wires inside the bracelet. I don't even want to think about what happens when the cord is pulled. Speaking of cables, that's a nightmare too. It's too light and cheap, so it curls into twists and turns by simply taking it off and putting it back on. It gets in the way and won't come loose no matter what you do. I don't think it will last a year unless I treat it like a museum artifact. Also, I have small ear canals and this thing is very, very uncomfortable. I have to fold the pads in half and fumble in my ears to get any sort of comfort. Even then, I can only wear it for about 60 minutes before I need to take a break. Wearing it for a few workdays in a row makes my ears hurt. The included foam pads are incredibly cheap and scratchy, which doesn't help. It's gross, but it brings a different perspective on things - they're not particularly comfortable, but they're great at removing the dead skin from my ears. The output speakers have an odd, wide cone shape, so I can't order more comfortable third-party foam pads. Not that I should have been in that price range at all. For the price, I would expect much better build quality and comfort than dollar store headphones. But the $10 headphones I bought in the CD player era were better made than these. I like the clarity of the sound but I won't be buying another pair.
