I think most people install this in an existing hole and others drill a hole in thin wood. However, I set it up on a workbench with 3/4" wood for drilling. The hole was easy enough with a 1.5" hole saw. However, the socket is 1.58 inches at its widest point. Now if you have a 40mm hole saw, which is 1.5748 inches, you shouldn't have a problem. As for me, I spent a few hours with a Dremel and a sanding attachment. The socket is held in place by a tight fit, so I had to sand it a little, check, sand it some more, check and so on. I finally got it right and the thing does it very well! My tablet uses a lot of power and I usually need the original charger to keep up with it. This socket supported my tablet 100% without any problems. It also charged my phone in record time. So, IMO, this socket was worth the effort, but I'd rather have a screw in the back so drilling the hole didn't have to be as precise.
