Review on πŸ”₯ Replacement Inner Water Heater Tank - Atwood AT91059 by Demarco Vonk

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good tank; Ring Bummer

Our water heater's tank ruptured when limescale built up in the pressure reducing valve mechanism. Rather than buying a completely new Atwood GC6AA-10E water heater, we decided to reuse as much as possible and connect a spare tank. The tank we received was fine, contained everything expected and was shipped a week earlier than the original statement said: everything is fine. In fact, this would have been a five star rating barring one major design flaw that made installation a frustrating, painful, and time-consuming process. As you can see from other reviews, the tank is secured to the front panel with four retaining rings that fit over the propane combustor and outlet. In fact, the rings are made of stainless steel and are too small to "slip" through the pipe they are designed for. We ended up using a Dremel tool to sand down the inside of each ring so we could at least start the damn work. It might have been easier if we had about a foot of 2 1/2 inch pipe to install the rings, but I'm not sure about that. Anyway, we did it, but I'd like some violence against the "engineer" who came up with this plan. If the ring pattern were replaced with screws, for example, we would be done in less than 3 hours instead of the 2 days it took us to arrive at a solution that works.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Poor manual
