When I installed the dog door, the door had a 1/4" gap at the bottom so don't seal outside air, cockroaches and lizards. I contacted Hakuna with this information and they provided instructions on how to pry off the metal valve retainer on top of the valve. With effort, I only managed to build up 1/16 inch, leaving a constant 3/16 inch gap at the bottom of the flap. I reported this to Hakuna and they did not replace the faulty valve. Obviously they have defective components that they will not replace. DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS DOG FLAP!
