While looking for a small pocket camera for camping trips I came across this unique little camera. I've been using my high-end cell phone camera while hiking for a while now and I'm just tired of it. I think these phones are not the best option for using cameras. I should add that I am a true Canon owner with the T3i and PowerShot G9. I did NOT purchase a Powershot N to replace any of them. I bought it because of fit-form function. If I'm doing a photo walk, I'll definitely use the t3i. The N stands for easy, casual mountain shots on a typical 12-mile hike. Throughout the search, this powerful capture continued to intrigue me with its shape, size, and zoom/capture toggle rings built into the lens rings. I feel like both features work well, although they take a bit of getting used to. The first thing that struck me upon unboxing was how small and beautiful this camera really is. It just fits in the palm of my hand. (I definitely use the wrist strap that comes with it) The N model is also very durable. It really looks like its body is made of aluminum. And a pane of glass. It's quite heavy for its size, but I like it. The weight provides a stronger and more stable grip when shooting. The swiveling screen works well for shooting from more difficult angles. So far the image quality of this little camera is pretty good. Actually much better than I expected. There are multiple recording modes including Hybrid Auto, Auto, and Program. When you take a photo, with the Hybrid Auto function, the camera records about 1-2 seconds of video each time you take a photo. Then when you come back and view the photos, you can either play ONLY the pictures OR you can play a small video/photo slideshow that plays small 1-2 second videos that the camera automatically saves when you capture. And it only plays video clips from photos taken on the same day. Actually a nice little feature. For me it's like taking pictures with steroids. Very cool. The "Program" settings give you the default options for adjusting exposure, white balance, drive mode, ISO, flash aspect ratio, and light metering. Everything works as prescribed. Or you can choose the normal "Auto" and let the camera automatically adjust to the scene you are in. Eye effects to choose from. It could be fun. I think something for children. I downloaded the "Canon" Android app and transferred the photos to my phone via WiFi. It was very quick, easy and painless. I only used the user guide to figure out which app to buy. The rest was self-explanatory and very easy to use with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The only downsides I've found so far with this little camera are: 1. When I pick up the camera, it's hard to find where "right side up" is. - something that will hopefully get easier with use. 2. The flash in this device is basically an upgraded smartphone camera flash. Not the right thing. And 3. Even though the touch screen of the camera is made of high quality glass, it would be a shame if the camera falls down. I know there are films to protect the screen, but they just steal the premium feel from the camera. This is by no means an "all replacement" for large DSLRs. I really like the convenience and uniqueness of this little camera. For what it is, its 5 stars. I really like it!
