Review on Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 Image Stabilized USM SLR Lens for EOS Digital SLR Cameras - White Box (Bulk Packaging) by Aashiva Pal ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good value for money, I recommend it.

I wouldn’t buy it on purpose (unless with a very limited budget), but as the first lens or kit - very much nothing. As a travel zoom, 85mm will probably be a bit short. The drop-down trunk is not particularly annoying, sharpness can also be tweaked a little in the editor. But aperture . f / 4 ends at 24mm, then up to 35mm it's f / 4.5 and up to 50mm it's f / 5, and starting from 50mm it's already f / 5.6. Bottom line: a good reporting lens for the money, something better from the same class - EF-S 15-85mm f / 3.5-5.6 IS USM and EF 24-105mm f / 4L IS USM - are 2 and 3 times more expensive, respectively

Pros
  • - Convenient FR range - Price - Ultrasonic motor, fast focusing - Stabilizer - Internal focusing, i. E. the front lens does not rotate - relevant for those who shoot with a polarizer or a gradient filter - Ability to manually focus at any time
Cons
  • - drop-down trunk - luminosity - sharpness is not amazing :)

Take it, you won't regret it. Only the L series will be better, but there the money is completely different.
