Disappointing MFP

This printer has a couple of major flaws that might make you think. The reviews were great. Not sure why. I would really like to return it and we are looking for a replacement but not sure if another all in one printer is much better. The scanner/copier has one serious drawback - it cuts off the top (or bottom - depending on the orientation) of the original. It seems to be a hardware problem. And the cropped text is not on the outside edge of the page. The printer claims to print through, but it looks like the scanner/copier part has a margin of about 1/2 inch (just over 1 cm) around the edge that it just can't accommodate. Or maybe some part of the printer keeps cutting it off. There's no real workaround, so we scan with a special scanner and send it to the Canon printer at a reduced size (e.g. 90%). It's bad when a workaround requires another device, isn't it? Although we bought it in the US, the printer seems to use all European/Asian sizes (A4/A5, not Letter/Legal) by default. These are printer settings and driver settings when calling up dialog windows. I seem to have reverted everything to letter size, but why would I do that when US printing is almost always letter/legal? Communication is unreliable. It's on our very reliable Wi-Fi network, but it's still dropping out every few days. You try to print one day and the printer is not found. So you turn off the printer and it usually finds it. Sometimes the computer needs to be restarted, but usually it just turns the printer on and off (but it takes a long time to restart the printer as it clears the heads and warms up again). The guide is mostly useless and doesn't cover most current issues. You will likely encounter. The touchscreen is pretty good, although it takes a bit of getting used to and sometimes responds strangely to button presses. Our last printer's menu buttons might have required more presses, but they were far more reliable. Print quality is good when it actually prints what you want. overall less for our ink usage.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
