I had a smaller pink board with no parallel grooves on the bottom, but realized that day that the cotter pin was supposed to help hold the paper in place when you start wrapping (I'm slowly, I know), either way, it's an extremely useful piece - and the day I found it, I lost it! (Editor's update: I've since found this split pin, so I now have 2 sets!) But I was very happy to get this one, both because of the extra tool and because this set has more pins, including TWO removable ones. As other reviewers have said: this board has significantly smaller diameter holes and pins, so you can't necessarily mix sets. if you have an old one And these very narrow pens are a bit uncomfortable - everything is very close together. But it's great if you're working with very narrow ruffle strips and/or are willing to play around with strips to create narrow profile buttonholes. As another reviewer mentioned, I wish there were some instructions included with the board. Most quilling books explain how to use a peeling board, but I've never seen you use these parallel grooves. There is a picture on the package - I think you can create a fan effect (glue all the papers with parallel grooves on the top strip, then pull the opposite straps together and glue. This makes a flat-top fan, if that makes sense) . There's probably a lot more things you can do with it, I'm not very good at stuff like that, I'm sorry I didn't get instructions - but I'm sure there are some on the internet - JUYA- Quilling stuff is still the best! They work with very narrow ruffle strips and/or are willing to fiddle with strips to create slim profile buttonholes.
