Review on Macally Magnetic πŸ“± Car Mount for Phones - by Joe Patterson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Worried the magnets won't hold heavy phones? It really is like that!

Having spent over a few months on this now I would like to make a sequel. I bought this phone holder in August 2020. So a little over 7 months. The part that magnetizes and holds the phone is cracked, broken at the bottom, it just broke off, it can't be repaired. I did not find any spare parts for this device, I searched for a long time. Since this is the phone mount you need every day, in desperation I re-ordered another one. My original review stands still, it holds one of the heaviest phones (I have the Moto G Power 2020 version by now) and holds it tight. But once it breaks you have to buy a new one, that 16€ every 7 months is not the end of the world, you just have to accept that it is not indestructible like all metal devices. It's actually pretty fragile for that purpose if you ask me. Now below is my first review when I bought the first device. I am using a Moto G7 Power phone. This is quite a heavy phone compared to regular battery phones. When I first got this car mount kit, my phone would fall off every time I hit a bump in the road. I thought it wasn't designed for heavy phones. Then I decided to try again, I went ahead and bought a much thinner case for my phone which solved the problem. Now it lasts all day. So if you have the same problem as me, try a thinner case for your phone. The only thing is that the magnet works. The old thick cell phone case was not suitable for this situation. Or you can just bite the bullet and stick a metal plate on the outside of the phone case that's exposed to the surface, rather than hiding the metal plate inside like the manual suggests. It doesn't look like much, but at least your phone won't fall out of your hand and get lost under your feet every time you hit a bump in the road, it's your choice :)
