Bostitch is a famous brand that I have always associated with high quality and reliable pencil sharpeners. I assumed that when ordering. The price was reasonable, but I assumed (again) that its old-fashioned manual style wouldn't be as popular as the new electric models, so the price reflected that. The product arrived undamaged and I believe it works as intended. With care I can achieve very good results. However, I noticed 3 issues that devalued the product. 1- The plastic chip collector is very fragile and not very easy to put back on. 2- The sharpening blades are a single set on one side of the pencil, not both sides. as with older models that were reliable and durable. Unilateral blade placement requires you to carefully hold the pencil straight, otherwise the wood would still be on one side of the pencil down to the sharpened point. 3- The vacuum mount works well as it keeps the device in place while in use. However, the lever that turns the vacuum on and off is positioned in such a way that it cannot be disengaged without prying it off the surface with another tool. I don't expect it to last very long.
