Review on πŸ”₯ Metabo BS LTX 3 LiHD Kit: Unleash Exceptional Performance and Power by Phillip Hoover

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great drill, unmatched features and performance.

Excellent drill/screwdriver with performance unmatched by any other brand. The high 3800 rpm speed puts this drill in one of the three classes I know of, the others are Festool and Fein and they don't even come close in terms of torque output. In my own testing I can drill 1/8" holes in 3/8" thick steel in 3.5 seconds versus 7 seconds for the same test at 2000 rpm which is the standard high speed for almost all other cordless drills high speed is limited to very small bits but when it can be exploited it makes a big difference most other 3 - and even 4-speed drills give you moderate speeds that don't extend the drill's capabilities, they add weight and complexity with no real benefit. A low range can wreak havoc on your wrist b rake if you're not careful, they'll switch a side grip for some reason. use them The "quick" drill chuck is very practical for switching between two operations such as drilling and driving. All-metal keyless chuck and 1/4" hex keyless chuck. It can also accept 1/4" hex bits directly in the spindle when the chuck is removed, which can be useful in tight spaces. The battery release button is located on the drill and it's a little strange when you switch from another drill that has a battery release, but it doesn't take long to get used to it.The battery life with 5.5Ah LiHD batteries is amazing. The charger has a fan , which blows air through the battery. It's slightly louder than a desktop PC fan, runs when the battery is charging, and turns on intermittently for a few minutes while the battery is left in the charger. Also used as a hammer drill (SB 18 LTX-3) which is identical except the gearing is an inch longer to accommodate the hammer's function. They are made in Germany, although not all Metabo instruments. I can honestly gesa Can't say the quality is better than comparable tools that are crazy in China, but at least my $400 didn't go straight to China like it does when buying a Milwaukee tool made in China. You have to unscrew it almost to the point where it falls apart. Shifting takes a little more effort than I would like, I had no problems with gear selection, but I would have liked a forward/reverse slide switch like on the Metabo 2-speed drills and many others. I have concerns about the durability of the keyless drill chuck interface. The 1/4" hex spindle seems undersized for the torque this thing puts out, I'm afraid it will wear out over time. The size. It's not too big or heavy, but if you're used to a compact drill, this feels big.

Pros
  • 1/2" drill chuck
Cons
  • Socket required
