Not intended for attaching O-rings

I was planning to use them to attach trim cords to my ceiling fans. (I make glass beads and wanted to attach them to use as tie rods.) However, the design of the connectors is different than what I expected - they don't have a hole in the back to attach an O-ring. I had no idea there were different types of such simple items.
