I placed them in the bottom of a large canning pot in a tub of hot water so the jars didn't touch the bottom of the pot. Another is placed on the bottom of the pan with the lid and rings. Worked great for this purpose. They were too pretty to take away, so they live on my table now. Sometimes as a coaster, sometimes as a serviette to take a hot dish off the table.
