I use my paint brush and bowl to apply this, but if you only want to apply it while washing I would suggest you take care of the application. Apply to newly colored area first, then run a comb or fingers through hair for the last minute or so to distribute. PREVIOUSLY LIGHTENED HAIR AND FRESHLY LIGHTENED HAIR ARE MOUNTED DIFFERENTLY! If you don't shampoo properly, you'll end up with purple ends and yellow roots. If you're looking to tone down yellow or copper color, I'd suggest a quick five-minute coloring session on freshly bleached hair. Be sure to do a strand test to see how the shampoo works for your particular hair type, as every hair is different. If you use it in the shower, have a bowl or something handy because the bottle is upright and you have to unscrew it, it's easier. Squeeze it into a bowl and cover with a lid so nothing spills out. I really love this shampoo; I have another brand that I use that is more expensive but works exactly the same so I switched to this one entirely.
