Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent reference book for beginners and intermediate seamstresses

Received this book in the mail two days ago and finished it last night. I love it! It starts with the basics and covers the different tools you need to sew effectively. Then plan your wardrobe and define your style. It talks about customizing patterns to fit your body, talks about different construction methods, and looks at different seam designs. It has five very cute patterns ranging from skirts to tops and dresses. My favorite chapter is Chapter 2, which is about wardrobe planning. She says it's a bad idea to just randomly pick a pattern and fabric without thinking about how it will fit into your wardrobe. How many times have I sewn clothes that I never wear. She talks about choosing the things in your closet that you really love and finding out why you love them so much. Responsible for planning your fall and spring wardrobe, she has a clear idea of what items you want to make to complete your wardrobe BEFORE you start shopping for patterns and fabrics. I love the tips she gives on different construction methods, like how to sew the dress lining onto the invisible zipper tape. I will definitely refer to this book for tips like this when embroidering my patterns. I don't think I will be making any of these patterns. I find dresses and tops too revealing and I like it when my necklines are quite high. Since it's winter, I can't imagine a sleeveless evening dress either. But I will definitely refer to this book for the techniques it explains beautifully in great detail with excellent photos. Overall, I would highly recommend this book for both beginners and advanced learners. One final note: this book is beautiful and is spiral bound which makes it very easy to unfold.
