I was unable to find any information on how they fit large 10" paper plates and how well they support a full plate at purchase. . They fit standard sized cymbals so a 10" cymbal will not snap into small tabs. However, large plates fit perfectly in plastic holders, and the plastic rim is just below the rim of the paper plate. These plastic cymbal holders seem to support just as well as the wicker ones. I've never had a problem tossing some food onto my plate and banging on the chair to watch TV while feeding my face. I didn't have to wash them, but I've seen that it hurts when food gets stuck between the holes. On the other hand, I don't have a dishwasher, so it shouldn't be a problem for others. Since the 10" plate covers the entire holder there was no reason for me to clean them as you may be using a smaller plate which will expose the rim of the plastic holder for the occasional food. Overall I'm very happy with it. I use paper plates LOTS and it allows me to hold a plate full of food just by the rim without the paper plate folding or folding in half.
