Pretty pretty, but not great.

First impression - nice and appears to be well made. It's a little bigger than I'd like if I made one, but it's not too big. I understand the need for some thickness and that seems acceptable. It's not as thick as the all-wood comb I have, so it's a bit easier to carry around. I'm deducting a star for quality control. Bone and wood are held together with tongue and groove. This should be centered to give the wood the most strength. It is centered on one side but too close to the outer edge on the other side. If the tree breaks, this is the place to be. Also, the groove is deeper than the tongue, leaving a small hole on one side. I removed the 2nd star because it stunk. BAD! We all felt it. putrid smell of burnt hair. It's disgusting and it stays. Well, horn, nails and hair are all made of the same stuff. As far as I can tell the cutting equipment burned the horn when they cut the horn to make the teeth. I took the comb out of the plastic bag it came in and decided to wash it before using it. I don't know where it was and I'm going to use it on my beard. I washed it with mild hand soap, dried it and started combing my beard. WHAT IS A TERRIBLE SMELL?! It smelled just like freshly burned hair. It was a horn. There were light areas and material between the teeth. Something could be erased, something not so easy. I didn't want to push hard because I didn't want to break a tooth. So I washed it twice with dish soap. It still stinks. Since the horn was once a living thing, I tried hydrogen peroxide to get bad breath out of my teeth. I've soaked my teeth a few times but it only knocked down the smell a little. I've tried hand soap and a toothbrush, but even that only mitigated the smell a little. So I tried hydrogen peroxide and a toothbrush. It helped a bit. I continued washing, scrubbing and drying until the smell was almost gone. I then rubbed the horn and wood with beard oil to put some oil back on the comb and let it soak overnight. The next morning I washed off the excess oil. The bad smell is finally gone. Overall it's a good comb, but don't expect to use it right away. I've been using the brush for a few weeks now. It stays in my pocket much better than the horn tipped comb I used and because the teeth are quite narrow it tames my beard well after I take the mask off. Except for the above issues, I still recommend this comb.

Pros
  • The long handle hair comb and the handle hair comb have wide teeth, and the wide teeth part is made of buffalo horn material.
Cons
  • There are doubts
