I have enjoyed this port replicator throughout the year that I have used it. So comfortable, versatile, portable for travel, didn't feel flimsy, much cheaper than the Microsoft DS on offer and worked really well. This allowed me to use the Surface Pro like a real desktop PC and then take it with me on trips like a real laptop. Happy story - until about two weeks ago I lost the ability to connect to an external monitor. I've spent hours fixing the problem, installing new drivers, etc., but nothing has helped. Could it be the Surfacekit Port Replicator? I went online and found that there are one or two other reviews on this product that had the exact same problem - the HDMI port failed after a year of use. So I went online and bought another replicator - actually even more compact, 2/3 the size of the one I bought last year but with the same connectors. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089XXC34C/ ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The new one arrived today and don't you know the monitor popped up as soon as I plugged in the new one. Conclusion: If you buy this HDMI Surfacekit Replicator, it's a great price, but be aware that you may only get use for a year. Other ports seem to work. ONE MONTH LATER. I received this new model and it only lasted ONE month so I don't recommend it at all! But more importantly, the tech company I was troubleshooting with said using one of those tiny/portable hubs would be problematic. This is because they don't have an independent power supply, instead drawing power directly from the Surface, which can cause overloading, and this likely fried the HDMI port here, although it used to be able to be used for a full year. it happened. Unfortunately, I had to shell out money for a Microsoft Surface Dock 2. Peripherals work, nothing overheats, and I'm not worried about secondary hardware shorting out my Surface.
