this works well for whistles and twisted grass. Of course, I recommend electric lighters that use a heating element like this over arc lamps. I had one of these and it stopped working - I thought it was the battery, I took it apart and soldered a new battery, made sure all the connections were good and that doesn't fix the problem and I don't know how I should fix it. I had another lighter like this that used a heating element for literally years of daily use but I lost it. This lighter has a much longer battery life than the one I had before. it is also smaller and lighter. Some other reviewers have mentioned that the switch is loose - in my case it wasn't, there is definitely a mechanism holding the switch off and in place. I'm not worried at all about keeping it in my bag. thanks for a great product.
