I bought this (Twin XL) for my half of our king bed. My wife has back pain and needs a firmer mattress. I can sleep on almost anything and am comfortable, but this new, firmer mattress put more pressure on my shoulders. Admittedly this rig looks ridiculous but for the price it was an easy short term fix. Average. The top layer adds a little softness, but if you wait 2-3 seconds you will start to sink into it. It's not spongy in the traditional sense. I don't have to "get up" out of bed or roll out of a crater. I have the 3 inch version and maybe the 2 inch version was fine. After reading a few reviews I decided to open it up and air it outside for a few hours. After that, he had no noticeable odor unless I stuck my nose in him. Then there was a faint smell of foam/chemistry. Sleeps fairly cool and doesn't wrap around like traditional memory foam. I will probably use it for a few months until we find the best solution for the entire bed. It would be great for a college dorm room with its awful mattresses.
