It didn't really work like I expected. While skewers are square, they're not very good at preventing the meat from turning when the skewer is turned. The skewers should be flatter and wider to prevent twisting. It would be better if the skewers themselves were longer or had longer handles. As you can see in the picture, the handles are almost flush with the metal grille. Guess what? This knob sits just above the burning charcoal and you can't turn it by hand unless you have NASA-level thermal protection for your fingers. Both the meat rotation issue and the super hot handles make it very awkward to maneuver as I struggled both with keeping the meat from rotating while flipping the kebabs and with straps to grab those super hot handles. My solution is to use 2 skewers per skewer for easier turning, or use smaller cuts of meat if using a skewer. Three stars for a reasonably good build quality for $7.
