Review on πŸ”„ Fluke - 880849 RPM80 RPM Probe with Inductive Pick-Up & External Trigger by Justino Pratama

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as advertised - probe version EA-100

Revain appear to use two different models (ASIN B0002SRIW8) packaged as Fluke RPM80 inductive probes (Figure 1). I received the model shown in Figure 1A, which looks like the All-Sun EA-100 model available from All-Sun for $16.99 (Revain ASIN B015PDXBU). This rating applies only to this model. Sun (Eastern Company, Zhangzhou City, China) as the manufacturer. I don't know who makes it and the model number of the one in Fig 1B.I, was happy with a simple large pinhole clamp for various size spark plug leads. The unit is light weight and has very high quality 5-6 foot red and black polarized test leads for connection to a multimeter that can measure frequency or speed. The only long-term problem I suspect is cracking of the somewhat thin and brittle black plastic of the probe body. (-0.5 stars) I tested the probe's ability to catch spark plug leads on an unloaded Briggs & Stratton 030253 alternator running at 3600 rpm. The arrow on the dipstick must point to the spark plug (Fig. 2). The oscilloscope waveform is shown in Fig.1. 3. Delta-t spark ignition was 16 milliseconds or 62.5 spark pulses per second (Hertz). I don't know why spark plug signal levels fluctuate between 3.3 and 1.3 volts peak. Since hertz (Hz) per second is RPM, I understand that you need to multiply hertz by 60 to get spark signals per minute. It will be 3750 rpm. To verify the oscilloscope readings, I used a Crenova MS8233D multimeter (Revain ASIN B00KXX2OYY) connected to an RPM80 probe (Figure 4). The results agree fairly well; However, it is not known how different multimeters process this peak signal to determine the AC voltage. Overall I was very pleased with the pickup capability of the probe and the purity of the spark plug's signal for frequency and signal level. However, I'm still confused. Information on the various models of this RPM80 probe sold in Fluke packaging by various vendors including Revain. The "official" Fluke website at the time of this review still shows the All-Sun EA-100. (-0.5 stars)
