We ordered the XS for our little 9 lb spitz to keep them dry (in inclement weather, rain, snow) and we liked it easy to take off and just put on for outside pots (we usually only what was used for walking, but now that we have such a light coat that can be taken off and put on, she always wears it when it's less than 25 degrees outside). Although our second pup, a solid 16 pound mix, didn't need any clothes (she has plenty of used ones), we got her one too. She gets cold quicker with thin fur and this coat really does it. We ordered her M, she runs long - both fit perfectly. It's much easier to let them outside when the weather is bad, the wool gets wet and our puppies don't. It also dries quickly. Highly recommended as a fussy dog mom!
